On the 7th November 21.3m Windhaven relaunched from the Yachting Developments yard after the completion of a long term, careful restoration that has seen this beautiful 1948 classic Kiwi yacht returned to peak condition. Designed by Col Wild she was one of the first 'superyachts' ever built in New Zealand. Her worklist included a full interior and exterior refit and repaint. After travelling from the Yachting Developments yard, Windhaven was smoothly relaunched with finishing details now underway. The work on Windhaven was undertaken by Kiwi owners who are delighted with the end result of the project. The yacht will now be based in Auckland.
Summer is nearly here in New Zealand and in anticipation of a busy season of sailing ahead a number of yard alumni have been in the shed for a winter spruce up. We have welcomed back local yachts including Go, Lady Shirley, Ngatiki and Managing Director Ian Cook's own Ranger. It is a pleasure to have ongoing relationships with the owners of all of these boats, who continue to place their trust in our team.
One exciting project was a new longer keel for Anarchy, which was launched by the yard in 2015, with the yacht subsequently taking out the 40ft division in the recent Coastal Classic. Congratulations to Team Anarchy, an amazing result.
Famous as the first boat the late Sir Peter Blake ever built, the classic keel boat Bandit underwent a complete rebuild and refit at Yachting Developments prior to her upcoming entry to the Voyager NZ Maritime Museum in December 2016 where she will be on display beside the Americas Cup winning boat NZL32. Built in 1966 by a then 17-year old Blake and his brother, and launched in 1968, the yacht is owned by the Classic Yacht Charitable Trust.
Work done included the yacht being restored to her original specs with as much of the original fittings, rigging and sails being incorporated as possible. Yachting Developments bore the majority cost for the work on this piece of New Zealand's history, supplemented by a number of donations, in yet one more demonstration of the yard's passion and commitment to preservation of classic yachts.
