ANTARES III
DIXON 30m SLOOP LAUNCHED 2011
Yachting Developments has launched Antares III, a 30m composite performance cruising sloop from the design board of naval architects Dixon Yacht Design. The vessel was also referred to as build number YD69 and Meteor 100 during its construction.
Built to comply with stringent Germanischer Lloyd and MCA classification requirements, the vessel is incredibly strong yet 25%-30% lighter than similar vessels built in Aluminum, this is achievable by the use of composites. The composite structure is post cure epoxy Eglass/Carbon/Kevlar incorporating high strength foam sandwich technology. The hull has a Kevlar outer skin for outstanding impact resistance.
The blond teak interior is designed by Rhodes Young and being built in-house by Yachting Developments specialist tradesman. The interior features wide walnut planked floors, and comfortable sofas. The owner’s stateroom is full beam with private access to the cockpit.
Spars and rigging are carbon fibre by Southern Spars NZ. The modern underwater shape includes a high-aspect carbon fibre rudder with direct quadrant non-assisted steering giving absolute feel to the helmsman.
Build time for this was less than 400days. The owner’s representative is Patrick Yeoward whom has been involved with three other yachts for the same owner.
